One Of our favorite destinations Jordan Hot Springs melds beauty, history and adventure all in one unforgettable backpack. Located in the Golden Trout Wilderness in the Southern Sierras, Jordan Hot Springs has been a destination for nature and wanderers since the late 1800s. It is a time capsule from history as the original cabins, dance floor and other buildings surround a great relaxing hot springs. From 1900 to 1964, families would trek by foot or pack animal to camp and enjoy a western remote resort - dancing to bands under the stars. Today it is only reached in the middle of the Golden Trout Wilderness by a six mile backpack trek. We start off descending into Casa Vieja Meadows - one of the most beautiful alpine meadows in Southern California. We have at least six river crossings as we follow the water down into the valley of hot springs. We will camp at Jordan Hot Springs - a great location with lush trees and flowing water. It is a premier place to catch an elusive and sought after Golden Trout - one of the few places in the world. We will have a truly gourmet meal as we relax and enjoy the history and the hot springs. The hike in is easy - as the entire six miles is downhill. For the return, with our packs lightened on Sunday we will ascend back up to the trailhead. This trek has ample opportunity for wildlife viewing. Bears, mountain lions, bobcats, deer and foxes have all been spotted. It is a truly epic and grand location which has been a sought after destination for more than a century. You can choose to hammock camp or sleep in a tent.
