BOUNDARY WATERS CANOE Join Howtrek for a journey into one of the last truly unspoiled remote wilderness areas in the lower 48 states. You will wake up to the eerily beautiful call of the loons over misty desolate lakes, come into contact with nations full of beaver, journey through an area populated by moose, wolves, foxes, bears and otters, and experience the best freshwater fishing for walleye, trout and pike in the entire United States. The Boundary Waters is a vast wilderness area untainted by roads or any human structures. It is a land with an amazing history of native American lore and Voyageur (French trapper and trader stories. The beauty of a land of lakes, woods and rivers completely isolated and untouched by civilization will create an experience and self journey unlike any other. DAY 1: You will be met at the Duluth airport for a shuttle 2.5 hours away to the town of Ely, Minnesota - the gateway to the Boundary Waters. Ely is an amazingly vibrant town constantly transforming from its early days of mining and timber to a current national center for ecotourism. Voted the Coolest Small Town in America by Frommer’s Magazine, Ely is home to the International Wolf Center, the North American Bear Center, the Dorothy Motler Museum, Save the Boundary Waters and a host of other museums and sights. Ely boasts a burgeoning food and social scene with great microbreweries like the Boathouse and modern creative culinary restaurants like Insula. You will spend the first night in Ely with options to explore both the historical and culinary treasures. Howtrek will guide you through a gear shakedown in the evening. We will be taking all equipment and food we need for the entire trip with no resupply. Howtrek will teach you what you need and make sure you are fully prepared to not only survive but thrive in the most remote area most people have ever visited. We will go over route planning - choosing our campsites and routes with input on group preferences. DAY 2: We will wake up early in the morning and pack the shuttle for a journey 30 miles north of Ely to the Little Indian Sioux River (North) BWCA Entry point. Here we put in on the Little Indian Sioux River - a beautiful meandering waterway teeming with beaver and waterfowl. By the end of the first day paddling, we will reach Devils Cascade - a spectacular display of rock and falling water and a gem of the BWCA. DAY 3-7: - CONTACT US FOR COMPLETE ITINERARY.
